As Shawn and Sarah Pritchett prepared to launch their first coffee shop in Newbury Park last year, they knew their family and friends would show up. But after the opening celebration packed Ragamuffin Coffee Roasters with familiar faces, they wondered, “Would the crowds keep coming?”
This was new territory for Shawn, who had served as a youth pastor at Newbury Park First Christian Church for 15 years.
Sarah had worked at a Starbucks before the couple had their first child, but opening and operating their own coffee shop was something else entirely—a venture that involved draining their savings, creating a Kickstarter campaign and jumping through hoops for county regulators for over a year.
